Redeemed How I Love to Proclaim It!

Remember that wonderful, old hymn!  It’s been on my mind quite a bit this season as I ponder REDEMPTION and what it actually means in the life of believer. How should redemption affect me and my life on a daily basis?

A quick search of the word “redeem” reveal the following secular definitions:
  • Compensate for the faults or bad aspects of something
  • Gain or regain possession of something in exchange for payment
  • To buy or pay off
  • To recover
  • To exchange
  • To fulfill a pledge or promise
  • To make up for or make amends to offset some fault or shortcoming
  • To obtain release or restoration as from captivity by paying a ransom

The “theological” definition is “to deliver from sin and its consequences by means of sacrifice offered for the sinner”.

Isn’t it amazing that redemption’s secular AND theological definitions were all fulfilled by Christ and God’s ultimate plan for the redemption of His human creation?

Christ, himself, compensated for our faults and sins by being the PERFECT LAMB OF GOD.

Christ allowed God to regain possession of us by paying the price for our sin.

Christ paid in full our debt to sin.

Christ recovered our souls by COVERING our sins.

Christ exchanged HIMSELF for us and took our punishment so we could be free.

Christ provided for the Old Testament pledges and promises of God to be fulfilled.

Christ made amends and offset our faults and shortcomings and CONTINUES to do this through the work of His Holy Spirit living in us.

Christ paid the RANSOM so we would not have to live in captivity to sin any longer.

Christ was the ultimate sacrifice of God Himself as He took our sins to be nailed to the cross.

God Himself redeemed His Son when He raised him up to live again to spite death and to prove once and for all that HE IS LORD.

Have we considered the meaning of REDEMPTION?   Or have we lost the mind-blowing, heart tugging, value of its true meaning?

Dear God I don’t want to be complacent with the gift of redemption.  I want its definition and reality to define me, sustain me, fulfill me, and allow me to know that I am not my own.  I have been bought with a price. All earthly treasures pale in comparison to this treasure given by you, God, for the Redemption of your kingdom.  We are ultimately the richest people in all creation – the REDEEMED. There is no earthly inheritance or legacy that compares to the inheritance freely given to us because of the purchase of our souls by the REDEMPTION offered through Jesus Christ Our Lord. Keep me mindful of the price you paid to pay my debt, to cover my sins, to exchange my sin for life in you and though you, forevermore!  AMEN

Galatians 3:13-14   Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us…...so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith.

Psalms 130:7-8   Our hope is in the Lord!  For with the Lord there is steadfast love, and with him is plentiful redemption.  He will redeem us ……. from all our iniquities.

1 Peter 1:18-21   Knowing that you were ransomed from your futile ways……. not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ the lamb without blemish or spot…... He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in these times for the sake of you who through him are believers in God……your faith and hope are in God.

Job 19:25   For I know that my Redeemer lives!

Hebrews 9: 13-15
For if the blood of goats and bulls …. sanctify …...how much more will the blood of Christ…...offered himself without blemish to God.  He is the mediator of a new covenant…that redeems us from transgression.

Redeemed How I Love to Proclaim It…...Redeemed by the blood of the lamb…. Redeemed through His infinite mercy…. His child and forever I am……
