Love Letters - Have you ever found an old love letter hidden away? Several years ago, I found an old love letter written just a few days after my parents met. It must have been “love at first sight” for them! Oh, how I loved picturing them long ago as their first meeting kindled a love and a passion that ended up being a puzzle and a gift for the rest of their days, but eventually gave birth to this baby girl (all grown up now). Reading old love letters can tie the past to the present and give us glimpses of the boldness and passion that existed then and could possibly be ours today.
Old letters can give us understanding of those who have gone before us, their situations, their passions, their history. Sometimes they raise more questions than they answer, especially since my parents are gone and there is no one to ask.... But still – having letters that prove their love for each other warms my heart and makes me remember their love for me!
The Bible is our “love letter” from God-Old Testament Prophecy fulfilled by New Testament Revelation! I learn so much about my Heavenly Father by studying scripture and the context in which it was written. I can’t imagine NOT having this “love letter from God”!
When I was little I learned all the common Bible Stories. From the parting of the Red Sea to the wee little man was he - I learned about events and characters and Jesus....Jesus, always at the core of the message.
But when does one internalize the message they have been taught from youth? When does it come alive and breathe new life into a soul?
As a teen, I came to a point where I was confronted with whether I would accept or reject the message I had been taught all my life. I chose to accept that this Jesus was real and this Book could forever help me understand Him and unlock my heart and my soul to His truth, His message, and His power!
The evening Jesus became real to me was snowy, and as the powder fell from the sky, I lifted up my face to the cold flakes and watched the world turn white. I saw a new world before me clean with new snow just as I felt my soul had been cleansed by the realization that Jesus was now my one and only! I went home and pulled out His “love letter” and began reading with new eyes, a new mind, and a new heart!
I cannot begin to tell you how scripture spoke to my heart. It was as if every phrase was written just for me. Reading these words with a new heart awakened a new part of my being that had been so asleep that I didn’t even know it existed. And that was just the beginning....
His “love letter” has led me to thank Him in glory days, gain comfort from Him in difficult days, and to praise Him for ALL of my days!
The best love letter ever written is the one God gave us to point us to His Truth and to His Son. Reading His ancient love letter can tie the past to the present. It can connect us to the boldness and passion that existed then and contiues to exist today. It is relevant and real.
During this season of LOVE, I invite you to read His love letter. It was written JUST FOR YOU.

Thank you for your love letter. I pray that we will read it with open hearts......with your Spirit guiding us. I pray that you will teach us truths that cannot be gained from other sources. Help us read and understand your Word, study it in context, and apply it to our lives. Help us to have boldness and passion for You. In Jesus name...Amen.
